This is the SD 1/200 scale model kit of the RX-78-2 Gundam produced by Bandai 2009 Japan.
(Before Repaint)
First thing first, I would like talk about the actual SD kits before I move to my final repainted SD kit. This SD kit itself is kinda shorty to be honest. Initially I didn’t think to repaint it but since this is my first SD RX-78-2 Gundam kit, might as well repaint it. I was gona chose SD Gundam Extended kit but I couldn’t find one in Brunei (Oh well). So I bought this kit instead at Gundam Kit Brunei. Thanks for the cheapest price! BND15! I learn that the Extended kit got the lowest for BND9 only!!!!! Damn!
I’m a huge fan of RX-78-2 Gundam, It’s a lost for me not having all grades kits of RX-78-2 Gundam. I’m left with Perfect Grade which soon to be mine! Oh, and Gundam Converge too! Right now in store is Gundam Converge #03 Origin Ver. I should get it next month if I’m lucky!
So, the articulation are the same as the usual SD kits. Especially the legs part are horrible. A bit pose-able and nothing fells off while moving around here and there which is ok. When it come to weapons for SD scale, majority are so thin. It’s like way out off scale. I wish it could have been a bit bulky and add coolness touch like what Chibi figurines has offer. Well that’s what you can get for SD! Plus the colour is boring, dislike the pearl white on this kit, which doesn't really appealing much. And that shield, too plain gray.
SD RX-78-2 Gundam art box. Compare to the first SD Gundam, this one is thumbs up!
Onto repaint work-in progress.
Very beginning of WIP starting with the head. Clearing all the nubs and the V pin needs to be sharped.
Here is the before V pin.
After V pin by sanding and filing. Nice and clean sharp point there.
Then after clearing nubs and seam lines removed, on to paint job!
After painted. Truth to say I hate masking tape and the hardest yet to overcome the process. You need a lot of patient to do it tho, or else.. you will destroy everything!
Final product! After applying decals! Here’s the front view. Basic spray paints I used; White, Yellow, Blue, German Gray and Red, all from Tamiya Brand.
A bit of side view here. Close up decals.
I used German Gray for the weapon.
Back view with more decals on the backpack.
Here’s number 03 for this kit.
More close up look.
Here’s one of the pose I can present to you guys. I really loved repainted Ver of this kit. Everything in this kit spray/hand painted, ain’t no sticker apply other than decals. I try to duplicate as equal as the one on the art box. Overall experience and work-in progress was fun to build but a bit struggle along the way and the whole process took me almost 2 weeks!
I’m planning to do more repainted SD kit this year. I might try to go for Extended kit. For now I couldn’t think of what extended kit to choose. Barbatos?
That’s all for my reviews for Repainted SD-78-2 Gundam.
Essentially all base on my opinions and personal reviews for this post.
Coming up next blog: Thunder (hint)
Sorry for the delay, I couldn’t catch up my assignments lately LOL so for this post, I manage to do it for an hour (is at least I can do).
